CAI experts speak: How to balance a full-time job and freelancing
The bulk of two jobs can be troublesome, especially if your
second livelihood requires freelancing. Working at both an office and home can
incur stress, unless you know how to balance your jobs and your personal life.
Work on your
freelancing project at a nearby coffee joint
“Instead of going home, complete your freelancing tasks at a
nearby Starbucks,” explains Jayant Agrawal, a freelancer with Connecting All India. Your aim
should be to avoid creating an office-like atmosphere at home. At your abode, you
need to feel comfortable. It’s a place where work doesn’t follow you.
Plan your entire day
CAI freelancer Ayush Jogi plans his day according to his
full-time job. If he has a bigger workload at his 9-to-5, Ayush reduces the number
of tasks planned during his freelancing time. The workflow at both of his jobs is
streamlined and are scheduled with respect to each other.
Sleep well
A CAI freelancer says that he does not overwork and has
fixed 10 PM as his bedtime. After a sound nine-hour sleep, the freelancer
freshens up with a wholesome breakfast that revs him up for two jobs back to
back. Hence, to take the stresses of both your freelance job and your regular
job, you need to be well rested.
Keep your mind and
body healthy
It sounds preachy but it’s true. In addition to sleeping
well, when you wake up, cardio exercises go a long way. You’ll also need to
stretch, so your body readies itself for the day’s tasks. 20 minutes of yoga
and 20 minutes of meditation after half an hour of running will keep your mind
and body flexible.
Take ample number of breaks
If you’re working two jobs only to make more money for
financial security, you’re missing out on life. Also, make time for friends and
family. Money may be a problem during your youth, but your weak body during old
age won’t let you enjoy the wealth you have collected.
